Nissan Executives Hint at Electric Crossover
An electric crossover is likely part of Nissan’s future.
Executives for the Japanese automaker teased the idea while discussing Vmotion 3.0, a concept vehicle that will be unveiled later this year.
“Why not try something new?” said Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan Motor Co. global design chief. “In the future, we’re not going to have just one EV. So we’re starting to map out what is the DNA that can go across different genres.”
Nissan debuted the Leaf, an all-electric passenger car, in 2010. The Leaf produces no tailpipe pollution or greenhouse emissions.
Design director Mamoru Aoki said Vmotion 3.0 will be electric and that the electric powertrain allows for creative styling opportunities.
A flat floor, new aerodynamic shapes, and narrow low-resistance tires are among the designs Nissan might consider, Albaisa said.
Renderings of the Vmotion 3.0 will be available at a later date. Vmotion 2.0, a concept sedan, was unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
