Nissan’s e-Pedal Will Change the Way We Drive

April 10th, 2018 by

Nissan is no stranger to innovation, and the e-Pedal represents another achievement in the company’s rich history of safe-driving technology.

The 2018 Nissan LEAF features the e-Pedal, a safety innovation allowing the driver to do 90 percent of their driving with the accelerator pedal alone.

Available on all versions of the 2018 Nissan LEAF, the e-Pedal enables drivers to accelerate, decelerate and stop the car using just the accelerator pedal. Simply taking a foot off the gas pedal brings the LEAF to a smooth, complete stop.

Drivers don’t need to hold the brake pedal down when fully stopped, either. The LEAF’s hydraulic brake system automatically activates to keep the car stationary.

Nissan’s surveys in Japan, Europe and the United States indicate the e-Pedal reduces the number of times a driver applies the brakes while commuting in heavy traffic.

The traditional brake pedal still plays a role, of course. Drivers would need to step on the brake pedal in emergency situations, though the e-Pedal lets the driver use the accelerator pedal for more than 90 percent of their driving needs.

The YouTube video above outlines the e-Pedal and what it means for the future of driving. Of course, you can always drop by Future Nissan of Folsom and test drive the 2018 LEAF for yourself and experience the technology for yourself.
